Staying in Bang Tao, Laguna, Surin or Layan and want to train while you are in Phuket? Khunpon Martial Arts is in Cherngtalay, inland from Bang Tao Beach, with 90-minute Muay Thai group classes, private coaching and showers for afterwards. Keep the hotel you have chosen and join us for one class or for the whole trip.

You do not need experience to begin. If Muay Thai is already part of your life, a holiday does not have to mean a break from the pads either. Tell us where you are starting from and what you want to work on, and we will find you the right place on the training floor.

Ask Khunpon a question on WhatsApp or check the class timetable.

Where the gym is

Khunpon Martial Arts, 8/2 Soi Cherngtalay 2, Cherngtalay, Thalang District, Phuket 83110.

Cherngtalay is also written Choeng Thale or Cherng Talay. Muay Thai in Cherngtalay, a gym near Laguna Phuket and Thai boxing near Surin Beach all mean the same part of the island.

Blue Tree and Boat Avenue are useful landmarks when you explain the journey. For the final stretch, share the Khunpon map pin from our contact page with your driver.

How long does it take to reach Khunpon?

These are our road estimates from each starting point. Traffic, weather, your hotel entrance and the route can all change the journey. The Laguna time is from the Laguna Phuket point on the map, not from every resort in the estate.

Starting pointBy road
Blue Tree Phuketabout 2 minutes
Boat Avenueabout 4 minutes
Laguna Phuketabout 6 minutes
Bang Tao Beachabout 10 minutes
Surin Beachabout 15 minutes
Layan Beachabout 15 minutes
Phuket International Airportabout 25 minutes

Each starting point opens the route in Google Maps. Check live directions before you leave and allow time to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class. The airport estimate covers the road only, not immigration, baggage or waiting for transport.

Getting there: taxis, Grab and parking

Ask your hotel reception to arrange a taxi or car, or use Grab. Share the gym's map pin rather than asking for "a gym in Bang Tao".

If you drive or ride yourself, Khunpon has on-site customer parking, with a dedicated area for bikes and scooters and a separate area for cars.

We do not run hotel pickups, but the team may be able to help you arrange a taxi or Grab. Transport and fares are separate from your class fee. You do not need to rent a scooter to train with us: choose the transport that suits your stay and allow a little extra time on your first visit.

Fitting training around a beach day

A class at Khunpon gives the day a focus and leaves plenty of room for the holiday around it.

Muay Thai group classDaysTime
MorningMonday to Saturday08:00 – 09:30
AfternoonMonday to Friday16:00 – 17:30

Each class lasts 90 minutes. Check the full timetable before you travel.

Train first, explore afterwards. Join the morning class, cool down, use the showers and stop at Khunpon Kitchen for a smoothie or something to eat. Then head back towards Bang Tao, Laguna or Surin without a hotel stop just to shower.

The morning class runs before the heat of the day.

Keep the morning free. The 16:00 – 17:30 class suits a slower start or a day with other plans. Arrive with enough time to change and get ready rather than rushing straight onto the mats.

Here for a week? Start with one class, see how you feel and build a routine with your coach, with room for rest days and sightseeing. The aim is to enjoy learning and come back ready for the next session.

What to bring from the hotel

Wear shorts that let you move freely and a light T-shirt or rashguard. Bring drinking water and a change of clothes. Training is barefoot, so shoes come off before you step onto the mats.

Bring your own gloves, hand wraps and shin guards if you have them. If your suitcase is already full, hire what you need at the gym:

EquipmentHire price
Boxing gloves100 Baht
Hand wraps100 Baht
Shin guards100 Baht
All three300 Baht
Towel50 Baht
Kick pads and gloves on the mats under the Khunpon Martial Arts sign

Prefer to own your kit? The gym sells Khunpon hand wraps and Khunpon x Phantom gloves and shin guards. Ask the team about sizes and stock.

Showers, changing rooms and lockers

Changing rooms, showers, lockers and restrooms are free for customers to use. Bring fresh clothes so you can leave ready for lunch, the beach or the journey back to your hotel. Equipment and towel hire are separate from these free facilities.

What it costs from a hotel

You do not need a residential training package or a long contract. Choose a single class, a class pass or a membership to match the time you have in Phuket.

OptionPriceWhat to know
Single class450 BahtOne class, valid one day
Five classes2,125 BahtValid 15 days from first use
Ten classes4,000 BahtValid 30 days from first use
Unlimited Martial Arts, one week3,000 BahtMuay Thai, MMA and BJJ classes, plus open gym
Unlimited Full Access, one week4,000 BahtMartial arts and fitness classes, plus open gym

Prices include tax. Gear hire is extra: a single class with gloves, wraps and shin guards hired comes to 750 Baht, before any towel hire.

For a two-week holiday with training on some days, the five-class pass leaves room for other plans. A rest day does not use a class, but the pass still ends when its validity runs out: beach days do not pause the clock.

If you want to train more often, compare the unlimited options. For a longer stay, every duration is on the pricing page, and our guide to drop-in, weekly and monthly training helps you choose. Private training is priced on request: ask before you book.

Which hotels are close?

Khunpon is a gym, not a residential camp. There is no accommodation on site, so you book your stay wherever you like. Bang Tao, Laguna, Surin, Layan and Cherngtalay itself each offer a different way to combine a Phuket holiday with regular training.

The hotels below are starting points for your own research, with links to their official sites. A listing here is not a Khunpon partnership and does not include a transfer. Check the route from your own hotel: the area times above are not individual hotel journey times.

Laguna Phuket: resorts and apartment-style stays

Laguna Phuket's hotel directory lists six hotels with more than 1,400 rooms across the estate, a mix of beach resorts, villas and suites for couples, families and longer stays.

HotelWhy consider it
SAii Laguna PhuketA beach and lagoon setting with rooms and suites, for a resort holiday with visits to Khunpon.
Banyan Tree PhuketPrivate-pool villas for visitors who want their own space between training and exploring.
Angsana Laguna PhuketOne of Laguna's established beachfront resorts.
Dusit Thani Laguna PhuketAnother beachfront option inside the Laguna estate.
Cassia PhuketSuites and lofts with full kitchens and separate living areas, worth comparing for a stay built around a daily routine.
Homm Suites LagunaSuites with kitchenettes and living and dining areas, for short and extended stays.

The Laguna Phuket map and visitor leaflet (PDF, July 2024) shows the layout. Check current services with your hotel: Laguna's internal transport should not be assumed to include a ride to Khunpon.

Bang Tao and Layan: beach holidays with training nearby

Amora Beach Resort Phuket is on Bang Tao Beach with 264 rooms and suites, a large local resort for beach time around a morning or afternoon class. Khunpon held HYROX by the Beach there in May 2026.

Kora Beach Resort Phuket is on the Bang Tao coastline with a range of rooms and suites; its long-stay offers are worth a look for a longer visit. Ask the hotel about current terms.

Diamond Resort Phuket describes its suites near Bang Tao and Laguna as having kitchenettes, dining areas and balconies, useful if you want to cook some meals around training.

For Layan, Anantara Layan Phuket Resort has suites, pool villas and residences. Plan the journey from the property entrance rather than from Layan Beach itself.

Surin and Pansea: another base for Muay Thai in Phuket

Looking for Muay Thai near Surin Beach? Our estimate from the beach is about 15 minutes by road, depending on traffic.

Twinpalms Surin Beach Phuket has rooms and suites in the Surin area. The Surin Phuket is at Pansea Beach, a different pickup point from Surin Beach itself, so name the exact property when you arrange the journey. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Surin Beach page has more on the area.

Short break or longer training stay?

For a few nights, weigh the hotel you want against the journey to class. For several weeks, also ask about kitchen facilities, laundry, housekeeping, a place to work, deposits and electricity charges; these vary by property and booking.

Apartments and villas around Cherngtalay, Boat Avenue and Laguna can suit a longer visit. Check the actual address and the rental terms rather than relying on "Bang Tao" in the listing title. Our fitness holiday guide covers planning training alongside the rest of your stay.

Beyond the Muay Thai class

Muay Thai is Thailand's striking art, often called the art of eight limbs for its fists, elbows, knees and kicks. IFMA's introduction to Muaythai explains its range, from fitness and cultural practice to competition.

At Khunpon your first step is practical: learn the stance, find your balance and listen to your coach. Beginners work on the foundations while experienced students refine technique. Meet the coaching team and read about Muay Thai training in Phuket.

You can also try BJJ in Gi and No-Gi, MMA, HYROX at our official training club, strength and conditioning and the Sunday Shred, all in the same building. Open Gym access is available if you follow your own programme. Check which classes your pass covers before you add a different one.

Questions hotel guests ask

Can I just turn up?

Yes. Walk in for a group class, with no message beforehand. Sign-up normally takes a few minutes, so aim to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to change and sort out any equipment.

Do private sessions need booking?

Yes. Private sessions for one, two or three students with one coach (1:1, 2:1 or 3:1) are booked before you arrive. Tell us your dates, your experience and what you want to work on.

Do you pick guests up from hotels?

No. We do not run a hotel pickup, but we may be able to help you arrange a taxi or Grab, and your hotel can help with transport.

Is the class suitable for a complete beginner on holiday?

Yes. Beginners start with stance, movement and the basic strikes, with coaching on the pads at a pace that suits their fitness and experience. Our guide to your first Muay Thai class has the full picture.

How many days do I need?

One class is a real class. With a week, three or four sessions with rest days is a good starting plan, adjusted with your coach to your experience and recovery. You do not need to train every day to take part.

Can children join Muay Thai classes?

Children of any age are welcome in group classes. Depending on their age they may need supervision, and our coaches decide what works based on the child and how busy the class is. For younger children, contact us beforehand so we can talk through your visit.

Are there showers, lockers and towels?

Yes. Changing rooms, showers, lockers and restrooms are free for customers. Towels are available to hire, so you do not need to bring one from your hotel.

Can I buy or hire Muay Thai equipment?

Yes. We hire gloves, hand wraps and shin guards, and sell Khunpon hand wraps and Khunpon x Phantom gloves and shin guards. Ask the team what you need for your session.
